HIDEOUT
Photography | Bosnian-Croatian border | 2023
HIDEOUT is part of a series of photographs titled RUINS – a reflection on the architectures of "transition" and the territories crossed along the Bosnia-Croatia border. This geographical area is marked by the presence of abandoned buildings that have been repurposed into refuges, shelters, and hideouts for individuals attempting to cross the border. This photograph captures one such bunker from the Croat-Bosnian war, set against a snowy landscape. A delicate balance between visibility and invisibility, presence and absence, place and "non-place," unfolds in this portrayal through an interplay of shadows and movement. Throughout the series, fragments of landscapes and traces of human presence are both in tension and connection. Issues of territory and its scars are explored within the contexts of displacement and survival.
