HALIDOM
Photography Series | Canary island | Spain-North Africa
2022
The series, on an iconographic level, serves as a pictorial metaphor for the dualities of life and death, presence and absence, the visible and invisible. Sculptural figures situated in desolate non-places and border zones become ephemeral yet symbolic monuments representing the unseen. The veil suggests concealment, protection, and camouflage, while emphasizing the movement of fabric as a metaphor for current unrest. The archaic landscape amplifies the dramatic nature of the scene and evokes mythical associations, evoking notions of divinity and inviolability. This contrasts with Baroque sculptures and paintings, referencing sacral representations. The series confronts the viewer with transitional spaces evoking a yearning for freedom and redemption.
